Determine the first derivative of the following trigonometric functions!

a. f(x) = tan x + sin x

b. f(x) = 5x + 4 cosec x

SOLUTIONS

a. the first derivative of tan x = sec2 x and the first derivative of sin x = cos x

f(x) = tan x + sin x

f’(x) = sec2 x + cos x

 

b. the first derivative of 5x = 5 and the first derivative of cosec x = -cosec x cotan x

f(x) = 5x + 4 cosec x

f’(x) = 5 – 4 cosec x cotan x
